Probes launched into detainee’s death at Hunts Bay lock-up

The Hunts Bay police in St Andrew are awaiting the outcome of a post-mortem examination to determine the cause of death of 24-year-old Adjay Williams of Olympic Gardens, St Andrew.

Williams, who was in custody at the Hunts Bay Police Station lock-up on a charge of assault occasioning grievous bodily harm, was taken to hospital after being found unresponsive in his cell during routine checks at about 8:00 a.m. on Sunday, September 30. He was pronounced dead on arrival by doctors on duty at the hospital.

The Inspectorate of Constabulary (IOC) and the Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM) have been informed of the incident and are also probing the matter.
