Portland water supply system affected by low inflows – NWC

Portland residents served by the Grants Level system are being told to brace for restrictions in their water supply.

The National Water Commission (NWC) is reporting that it has been forced to regulate water supplied to sections of the parish because of a significant fall in inflows to the Grants Level system.

NWC said it is working to alleviate service disruptions to a number of areas served by the facility.

The schedule took effect Wednesday night and the NWC said it will involve the building of storage tank levels and water supply regulation to ensure supply delivery to all areas inclusive of the elevated communities such as Red Hassell Road, John Town, Boundbrook and its environs.

The schedule and dates are as follows:

- Thursday, April 19, 2018  to Friday, April 20, 2018. Water will be supplied to: All areas

- Friday, April 20, 2018 to Saturday, April 21, 2018. Water will be supplied to: All Areas

- 8:00 pm on Saturday, April 21, 2018 to 6:00 am on Sunday, April 22, 2018. Water will be supplied to: Boundbrook, except for Dolphins Bay, John Town and its environs

The NWC said its customers will be provided with an update following an assessment of the supply schedule. It said its Turtle Crawle facility is also affected by reduced inflows.

The commission said water will also be trucked to the affected communities.
