Politician in custody after ‘illegal’ gun found in vehicle

A former Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) councillor is now in police custody and is being questioned after an illegal firearm was allegedly found in a vehicle he was driving on Sunday.

Police report that about 6:45 pm Sunday, the former councillor was stopped in Inswood, St Catherine at a police checkpoint.

Reports are that police conducted a search of his vehicle and two firearms were found, one said to be legal and the other he was unable to account for.

Police said he was taken in custody where he is still being questioned.
