The Guyana Hindu Dharmic Sabha has cancelled today’s Holi Utsav at the Everest Ground, Georgetown due to tensions following the March 2 Regional and General Elections.
“We encourage the observance of this beautiful festival in all the temples across Guyana through Holi satsangh, prayers, Phagwah songs and chowtal. As we smear the beautiful colours of spring on each other's faces, let us usher in fraternity, love and unity across our nation. May your Phagwa be blessed and may each heart be illuminated with wisdom and peace,” GHDS said in a statement.
GHDS has invited devotees to attend Holika Dahan at the Shri Krishna Mandir, Campbellville tonight from 6:30.
Post-election violence on March 5 has left one person dead and several people injured.
Businesses across Guyana have remained closed due to fears of further violence.
