Police probing stabbing death of shopkeeper in St Mary

The police in St Mary are continuing their probe to identify and locate the person or persons responsible for the stabbing death of a shopkeeper in Bailey's Vale district in the parish on New Year's Eve.
The deceased has been identified as 48-year-old Hugh Bennett of Bailey's Vale in the Port Maria area of the parish.
The police reported that at about 2:30 a.m., residents heard screams coming from the direction of Bennett’s home in the community.
On their arrival, after being summoned, police personnel found Bennett’s lifeless body in a pool of blood with multiple chop and stab wounds.
The body was later removed to the morgue, pending a post-mortem examination.
Early investigations by the police have so far revealed that robbery was a likely motive for the killing, as it is believed that a significant sum of money was stolen from shopkeeper.
Bennett's killing resulted in St Mary closing 2018 with 35 murders.
