Police probing dramatic murder of businessman in August Town

The police are continuing a probe into the drama-filled murder of a businessman by gunmen in August Town, St Andrew on Friday night.

The deceased has been identified as 30-year-old Dwight Stewart, alias ‘FT’ of Bedward Gardens in August Town.

The body of an unidentified man was also found by the police during their processing of the scene of Stewart’s shooting. The man is suspected to have been one of the gunmen who attacked Stewart, and was shot during an exchange of gunfire with the police who responded to the incident.

Reports were that at about 9:00 p.m., Stewart was walking across an open lot in a section of August Town, when he was pounced upon by armed men, who shot him.

The police were summoned to the area by residents.

On their arrival, Stewart was seen lying on the ground suffering from a bullet wound to his head.

While the police were in the process of assisting him to the hospital, they reportedly came under heavy gunfire from armed men hiding in nearby bushes.

The police took evasive action and returned the fire.

When the second round of gunfire ceased, the police transported Stewart to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

During the processing of the crime scene by investigators, the body of a male was discovered with a bullet wound to the head. An illegal firearm was reportedly found close to the body.

The man was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The police have indicated that the man is suspected to have been one of the gunmen who were involved in Stewart's shooting.
