Police in the Kingston Eastern division are searching for a group of heavily armed men who opened fire at a police team which was on patrol on Oliver Road early Tuesday morning.

Reports are that about 1.20 am, the team of officers was traveling in a police vehicle in the area where rival gangs have been locked in an ongoing feud.

Reports are that on reaching Oliver Road, the Rockfort-based police officers were attacked by gun-toting men who directed gunfire at the service vehicle.

The police team reportedly returned the fire and a shootout ensued, following which the men ran from the area.

After the criminals left, an inspection was carried out and sections of the police vehicle were found to have been damaged by gunshots that the criminals had fired.

None of the law enforcers were injured.

The police have since launched a search for the criminals.
