Police monitoring East Kingston after two murders there on Monday

The police are keeping a close watch on sections of East Kingston where two persons were shot dead and four others injured during two separate incidents on Monday.
Dead are Marlon ‘Brando’ Smith, a 42-year-old resident of Mountain View Avenue, and Wayne ‘Lurks’ Wesley, a 52-year-old resident of a North Thumberland Lane, Kingston 16 address.
In the first incident, police reported that at about 10:30 a.m., Smith was among a group of men at a construction site on Third Avenue in Vineyard Town, when they were approached by a group of heavily armed men.
“The men came to the site demanding work,” one source from the community told Loop News.
Police reported that during a heated discussion, the men opened fire, hitting Smith and another man.
The injured men were rushed to hospital, where Smith was pronounced dead and the other man admitted.
In the second incident that took place at about 4:30 pm, Wesley and two other men were standing on the road side in Franklyn Town, when they were attacked by a group of heavily armed men.
The men opened fire, hitting Wesley and one other person. The injured were rushed to hospital, where Wesley was pronounced dead.
The incident has since drawn a significant police presence in the area.
“The killing has again raised heavy tensions in the area, as persons are now in fear,” said a resident from the community.
