Police concerned about mob killing of mentally-ill man in Clarendon
The Clarendon police have reportedly expressed concern about the presence of mentally-ill persons on the streets after a man of unsound man was beaten and chopped to death by a mob in the parish capital, May Pen, on Monday afternoon.
The victim, known only as ‘Sam’, was reportedly set upon after having allegedly been involved in a number of violent attacks on persons in the town, including one that produced a fatality.
Monday’s mob attack took place on Morris Boulevard in the heart of the town.
Reports were that the deceased was walking along the road at about 12:30, when he was attacked by a group of men who chopped him, threw stones at him, and beat him with boards.
The local police confirmed that there were reports that the now deceased man had been attacking people at random in the town.
The latest incident reportedly occurred shortly before the mob attack on Monday, when a man was chopped and had to be hospitalised.
The man was also accused of causing the death of a man on June 28, after head injuries were reportedly inflicted on the victim.
