Poker Star looks set to return to top form at Caymanas Park
Champion trainer Wayne DaCosta’s POKER STAR is the ante-post favourite for Saturday’s 1200-metre overnight allowance sprint at Caymanas Park but faces a stern test from Gary Subratie’s SARAH LEE, who finished ahead of the former sprint champion in their last two races.
Since returning from a 10-month lay-up, POKER STAR has not shown the form which made him sprint champion in 2015 but did impress in a recent exercise gallop, last Sunday morning, suggesting he could have got rid of the ring rust.
However, SARAH LEE is a tough and genuine filly, who ran past fourth-place POKER STAR on June 2, just failing to catch WONG DON, by a neck, after losing more than three lengths by running wide off the turn at 1100 metres under jockey Aaron Chatrie.
Though he has looked much sharper at exercise, POKER STAR and jockey Omar walker will have to contend with breaking from position-one whereas SARAH LEE is in mid-track at post seven, which should make her more relaxed and stronger at the finish.
SARAH LEE’s last win was at 1200 metres, beating A.P.I. and speedy MR UNIVERSE, coming from off the pace with Chatrie.
The event will bring down the curtain at 5:45 p.m. on an 11-race programme, which runs off at noon.
