A number of students from the communities of Adelphi, Norwood and Anchovy received back-to-school support from the Peace Management Initiative (PMI) Western ahead of the start of the 2018-2019 school year.

The presentations, which took place at the offices of PMI Western in Montego Bay last week, were undertaken by Vice Chairman of PMI Western, Pastor Richard Keane, with support from staff members of the agency and violence interrupters representing the communities.

Speaking after the presentations, Pastor Keane expressed pleasure that PMI Western was able to reach out to the students ahead of the start of the new school year, especially against the background of the current difficult financial conditions.

“We are very happy to be able to assist these children from the communities of Norwood, Adelphi and Anchovy - three of our PMI supported communities. At PMI, we believe in the value of education and that our youth should be supported in getting a good education, so the support we are giving here today forms part of our mantra,” the clergyman said.

“With the many distractions which the youth is faced with, it is very heartening to know that these children from our PMI-supported communities are determined to go after a good education. These primary and high school students have shown great potential, and we believe that it is only fair to give them the necessary support,” outlined Keene.

The children all received a backpacks with school supplies.
