The ceremonial opening of Parliament took place Thursday morning with the usual pomp and pageantry along Duke Street in Kingston.

The event, which marked the opening of the 2019/2020 legislative year, featured a parade by a guard of honour formed by members of the Jamaica Defence Force and the Police Mounted Troop Division.

Members meanwhile dressed to impress and die-hard party supporters turned out to cheer them on as they entered Gordon House.

The event also featured the Throne Speech by Governor General Sir Patrick Allen, in which he reveals the broad outlines of the government’s plans, projects and programmes for the legislative year.
