A drive-through graduation ceremony was held for students of Mona Prep School in St Andrew on Thursday.

Drive-through graduation ceremonies have been adopted amid the coronavirus pandemic which has resulted in restrictions on public gathering.

At the ceremony held at the school's parking lot, Mona Prep students were smartly dressed in their uniforms, including custom-made school masks, while their family decorated their cars with supportive messages.

School principal Dr Carol Blanchard congratulated the 62 graduates whose efforts, she said, saw the entire cohort receiving proficiency and high proficiency in the areas of science and language arts.

"Credit must be given to the Board of Governors, Administrative Team, Teachers, Parents and most importantly our resilient students. As a result of the pandemic, the students gained additional 21st century skills to meet the change in classroom instruction and were able to adapt remarkably," Blanchard said.

The school's head boy, Jonathan Fuller praised teachers for helping students "to navigate these stormy waters" amid the COVID-19 outbreak.

"Mona Prep has amply prepared us for the next phases of our lives where personal and professional awards await us. Let us all promise to remain united as one family under God," he said in his message to the graduating class.

Alana Benjamin, the school's head girl, added: "Mona Prep has been our home away from home, so leaving our school family will leave a void. However, as we progress to high school, we need to remember the wisdom of our teachers and never forget that 'a Mona Prep student is disciplined, respectful, diligent and listens to the voice of wisdom.'"

The graduation class also received sound words of advice from past student Rochelle Cameron.

In the meantime, the top male student was Jonathan Fuller while the runner-up was Mijaun Talbot. Saamanta Selvon was the top female student; Savindi Amarakoon the runner-up.
