While the full details of the incident are still unclear, reports have emerged of a dramatic and bloody robbery and murder in Montego Bay, St James on Sunday morning.

Indications so far are that the operator of a major business establishment in the second city was being transported along Jarrett Street in a minivan by an employer of his, escorted by a Hawkeye Security team in a separate vehicle, when the two units came under heavy gunfire from men who challenged the group in search of money that was reportedly in the minivan.

The minivan ended up with five gunshot holes in the windscreen and the driver dead on the spot, while the businessman reportedly escaped the attack.

This was while the marked Hawkeye car involved was reportedly left with over 50 bullet holes and one member of the team dead, while the other has been hospitalised in a serious condition.

Reports are that the money, said to have amounted to some $20 million, was taken by the attackers.

The police’s information arm, the Corporate Communications Unit (CCU), has confirmed the deaths, but no further confirmation was forthcoming at the time of publication.
