Tax expert Allison Peart of Ernst and Young was elected president of the American Chamber of Commerce of Jamaica on Tuesday, at the body's Annual General Meeting at the Jamaica Pegasus hotel.

She finished ahead of Mauricio Pulido of GB Energy to win the nod to replace Ronald McKay of ADS Global as president.

McKay, who served as president for just over two years, declined the nomination on the floor during the AGM. He cited, as the reason for his decision, not being able to work with the board members as how he would have liked to.

He called for the new executive to continue the work of the constitution that he had started, and Peart said that is among her objectives during her term.

She said, "one of the things that we want to do at AMCHAM, is an objective to represent everybody.

"The past president has charged us, in making sure our constitution is correct, so we are going to need your help and with your support we are going to change Jamaica," Peart told the members.

McKay had earlier indicated that the body needed to be compliant with the constitution, to be able to access international benefit.

Peart will have as her vice-presidents, Ian Forbes of Sherwin Williams, Ann-Dawn Young-Sang and Pullido.
