Investigators probing the murder of Dr Lynvale Bloomfield, the Member of Parliament (MP) for Portland Eastern, apprehended a person of interest on Wednesday.

Head of the Corporate Communications Unit (CCU), Deputy Superintendent Dahlia Garrick, confirmed to Loop News on Wednesday afternoon that the individual is being treated as a person of interest.

"It is not a suspect at this time. It is someone who we believe can assist us with our investigation," DSP Garrick told Loop News.

She confirmed that the individual was picked up in the parish of Portland sometime after midday.

"Investigations are ongoing," was all that DSP Garrick would add.

Bloomfield was found with multiple stab wounds by one of his household employees at his home in Passley Gardens, Portland at about 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, February 2.

A post-mortem report from a recent examination of the body established that the two-term MP was stabbed some 20 times.

Senior investigators from the Major Investigation Division (MID) are leading an intense probe into the death.
