Parents in custody after 3-year-old girl dies in St Ann

The parents of a three-year-old girl are to be questioned in relation to her death on Saturday after she was admitted to the St Ann's Bay Regional Hospital with bruises and swelling.

The deceased child has been identified as Athena Forbes, of Bogue Village in Montego Bay, St James. 

Reports from the St Ann’s Bay Police are that about 7:10pm on Saturday, Athena was in the company of her parents travelling from Montego Bay to Portland.

It is further alleged that she later fell ill and was taken to the St Ann’s Bay Hospital. 

While being medically examined, it was observed that her body had bruises and swelling and the police were notified. 

Young Athena subsequently died and her body was removed to the morgue for post mortem, according to the police.

The parents of the child were later taken into police custody for questioning as investigators probe the circumstances surrounding the child's death.
