Over 100 graduates were last Thursday, awarded Creative Certificates and Diplomas issued by the University of the Commonwealth Caribbean (UCC) through a partnership with iCreate Institute.

iCreate’s aim is to fill the gap in skills training and development of creatives in the Caribbean and North America.

As an important part of the creative ecosystem, they provide students with a wide range of career opportunities in the creative economy.

Graduates were awarded Certificates in programs such as Advertising Design, Animation, Content Marketing and Strategy, Digital Video Production, Graphic Design, Photography and Project Management.

Diplomas were awarded to students who completed two complementary Certificate courses - awardees received Diplomas in Visual Communication, Content Management and Production Management.

“We are immensely proud of the quality of work that each Cohort continues to produce. iCreate is keen on ensuring that our students are not only imparted theoretical knowledge, but also understand their area of study in a very practical way. This graduating group was the first to have graduates in Photography and Graphic Design - which have quickly grown to be two of our most popular Creative Certificate courses” commented Jodi Taylor, iCreate Creative Programs Manager.

The closing ceremony featured guest speaker Debbie Bissoon, Media Personality and Marketing Executive and CEO of Bissoon Productions, whose address encouraged the cohort to continue to challenge themselves and develop their newly honed skills.

“Do not wait to begin to create! Do not wait to be employed; start right now. You can create right where you are, in your living room. You have gotten training here at iCreate but it does not stop here. Expand! Learn more!”

“The creative space is somewhere you can take risks - you have no excuses and no limits. Use what you’ve learned here and what is bubbling inside of you to your advantage and create something. Lead the pack,” Bissoon urged the graduates.

Bissoon’s address aligns with iCreate’s #CreateSomething campaign, which encourages students to develop their skills through practice, by actually creating original content and showcasing Jamaica’s abundant pool of local talent. This aligns with iCreate’s mission to unearth and nurture creativity, develop a deep and abiding passion for design and impart critical business skills to convert ideas into real value.

Tyrone Wilson, iCreate Founder & CEO remarks We are playing our part to contribute to the Creative Economy in a real, tangible way. By training these students in such hands-on areas, our hope is to not only nurture their creativity but also encourage entrepreneurship. It’s not just about applying their skills to what they are currently doing, but also about creating their own opportunities in the industry”.
