One dead, two injured as lone cop challenges armed robbers in Hanover

Two men were shot, one fatally, during a foiled robbery at a supermarket in Hopewell, Hanover on Saturday evening.

A customer was also shot and injured in the incident.

The deceased is yet to be identified.

Reports are that about 7 pm, three armed men were in the process of robbing a supermarket in Hopewell when they were challenged by a plainclothes policeman.

Two of the three armed robbers and a customer were shot and injured during the confrontation, and were later taken to hospital, where one of the wounded ‘robbers’ was pronounced dead.

The other wounded ‘robber’ was admitted under police guard, with the customer being also admitted for treatment.

Their conditions are not presently known.

The Hanover police are investigating the incident.

 The Independent Commission of Investigation (INDECOM) has also commenced a probe into the fatal shooting.
