Omar Walker wins aboard Run Thatcher Run to close triple
Jockey Omar Walker stars at Caymanas Park on Saturday, March 30, 2019 with three winners.
Omar Walker rounded off a three-timer at Caymanas Park on Saturday with last year's champion two-year-old, RUN THATCHER RUN, turning back challenges from United States-bred six-year-old, SARATOGA SIGHT, and late-running MASTER OF HALL at seven and a half furlongs.
Racing for the second time in a week ahead of the 2000 Guineas on Sunday, April 13, back-from-injury RUN THATCHER RUN lasted home by a neck in a driving finish from MASTER OF HALL with SARATOGA SIGHT three-quarter length away.
SARATOGA SIGHT joined RUN THATCHER RUN coming off the home turn and both horses engaged in a stretch duel before RUN THATCHER RUN started moving away.
However, MASTER OF HALL, who got the rail run to make up for ground lost at the half-mile marker, closed strongly on the inner inside the last quarter furlong.
Despite being challenged on either side, Walker kept RUN THATCHER RUN strong to the wire, beating MASTER OF HALL by a neck. A game SARATOGA SIGHT finished three-quarter length away.
Walker, a six-time former champion jockey, moved his tally to 23, six clear of apprentice Christopher Mamdeen, after earlier booting home back-to-back winners - LEGALITY for Philip Feanny and the first of two wins for Wayne DaCosta, MADAM SECRETARY in the sixth.
Trainer Carl Anderson also saddled two winners on the 10-race card, jolting punters in the opening event with 39-1 outsider, RUNDAZZLE, with Trevor Simpson.
Anderson rounded off his two-timer with the even-money favourite, SUNSHINE CAT, the first of two winners for last year's champion rider, Anthony Thomas, who returned to make all with ALEXANDRA in the eighth.
Racing continues at Caymanas Park on Wednesday.
