Nipster, England's Rose for Sir Howard, Hot Line Stakes
Ante-post favourites, NIPSTER and ENGLAND’S ROSE, are expected to outclass rivals in Saturday’s Sir Howard and Hotline Stakes, key three-year-old events ahead of next month’s Prince Consort and Thornbird Stakes, trial races for April’s classics, the 1000 and 2000 Guineas.
Wayne DaCosta’s ENGLAND’S ROSE, already a winner of two races, faces non-winners-of-two rivals, sharing topweight 126lb with Gary Subratie’s ANOTHER AFFAIR. Though unraced since September, ENGLAND’S ROSE, exercise gallops suggest she should easily dispatch rivals in the Hot Line Stakes with Omar Walker aboard.
GARY Subratie’s NIPSTER ran a brave second behind his stablemate, WOW WOW, the winter book favourite for the 2000 Guineas, making him tough to beat in the Sir Howard Stakes.
NIPSTER, with Anthony Thomas astride, ran his best race ever, beaten two and a quarter lengths by WOW WOW after both tracked SHE’S A HIT in fast splits. WOW WOW took over in the straight and NIPSTER got closer, second by a length, a furlong out, before his stablemate pulled off.
Prior to that run, NIPSTER, carrying 121lb, allowed last Sunday’s impressive winner, MAHOGANY, seven pounds at seven furlongs on January 18, chasing the entire way before losing second on the line to TOMOHAWK.
The Sir Howard and Hotline Stakes are scheduled as races four and six. First post for the 10-race card is 12:25 pm.
