One of Jamaica’s best-loved beaches has scooped a top-10 spot in TripAdvisor’s annual Traveller’s Choice awards for the world’s top beaches.

Seven Mile Beach in Negril was placed eight on the global list – a rise of seven places from its ranking of 15 in last year’s awards.

Reviewers on the travel-booking website praised its natural beauty, with one writing: “Perfect, crystal clear, turquoise blue, warm water, beautiful, fine white sand, and a lovely atmosphere.”

“Great beach to walk on. There are lots of places to stop and eat and drink along the way,” wrote another. Other travellers mention fantastic sunsets, good people-watching and a relaxed vibe.

The list was topped by the white sands and clear waters of Grace Bay in Turks and Caicos, which knocked Baia do Sancho in Brazil off the top spot.

The top European beach was Spain’s La Concha in San Sebastian, at six, and the top US beach was Florida’s Clearwater Beach, coming in at seven.

Beaches were ranked according to the quality and quantity of traveller reviews and ratings on TripAdvisor over the past year, the website said.

The news came a day after another boost for Jamaica’s tourist industry, when Dunn’s River Falls and Park, in Ocho Rios, came in at six on USA Today’s 10 Best list of Caribbean attractions.
