Mr Chumps steps up 'A Waan Place' promotion
Montego Bay-based dancehall artiste Mr Chumps has amped up promotion of his latest single, 'A Waan Place' with a concerted, island- wide push at street dances and places of entertainment spearheaded by his team. The song, which was released on the Monsta Piece label in November last year, is a bonafide radio hit.
"We will be taking on the 14 parishes, we start off with 2000 CDs that will be distributed by Biggz Mill Entertainment, and we will be using promotional girls to raise awareness of the brand. So far, everybody love the 'a waan place' slang, ah it ah get the biggest vibes for me. Anytime anybody see me, ah de first thing dat dem greet me with, 'mi de a waan place...', so mi know it connect in the streets. The ting done tek off so we ah expand the promotion islandwide," he said.
Last year, Mr. Chumps inked a five year recording and management contract with Netspen Entertainment. The promotion will be bankrolled by his new management company, led by chief executive officer Feneil Clarke.
"Mr. Chumps has the ability to make an impact in the music business. Netspen is ready to go on an all out campaign with our promotional team in all 14 parishes to help Mr. Chumps cement his place as a force in dancehall," Mr. Clarke said.
Mr. Chumps' breakout song, 'A Waan Place' is now a fixture at the weekly dances in Montego Bay such as Wuk Fah Thursdays and Exact Mondays, and the video is in top ten of the Street Link chart show. .
"The song is now on every mixtape, CD Banging, DJ Kenny, Don Kingston, DJ Dotcom, etc, and the song is huge in Montego Bay. The other day the video go number one on the dancehall charts. Right now, mi can't walk in peace inna MoBay," he said.
The artiste, whose real name is Calvin Clarke, vaulted into the spotlight a few years ago with the songs such as 'Flattering Lips' and 'Trick Dem and Buss Dem' that was produced by Truck Back Records. Since then he has maintained a presence in his native Montego Bay.
Mr Chumps took a hiatus from music for a few years, but decided to return in 2016 with a vengeance. He recently recorded a single called 'Rules the World' for Biggz Million Entertainment, 'The World is Not Enough' for YGF records, and 'Life' for CC Entertainment.
