Police are searching for a motor vehicle operator who led them on a high speed chase through several communities in the Corporate Area before abandoning the car and making his escape in bushes in the Queens Hill area of St Andrew on Tuesday.

Police say the man fled the motor car leaving most of his clothing behind.

A detective investigating the case told Loop News that the chase started after the male driver of a grey Nissan Tiida motor car disobeyed a police signal to stop while driving along the Mandela Highway.

"The man was seen on the Mandela High Way driving in a reckless manner and when he was signaled to stop, he disobeyed,” the police officer said.

The chase reportedly ended up in Queens Hill, where lawmen cornered the unruly motorist on a road that led to a dead end.

At this point, determined to escape, the man reportedly stripped down to his underwear and fled into nearby bushes, in the process assaulting an officer who attempted to apprehend him. The police officer’s phone and watch were reportedly damaged.

Up to publication time, the man was still on the run.

EDITOR'S NOTE: An earlier version of this story incorrectly stated that the motorist was driving a Toyota Corolla, when in fact it was a Nissan Tiida. We regret the error.
