More investigators for Portland after recent shootings
The police high command has announced that detectives from the Criminal Investigations Branch (CIB) headquarters, the Major Investigation Division in Kingston along with additional Specialist Forensic Crime Scenes Investigators have been assigned to support ongoing investigations in the Portland Division where a number of shootings have been reported over the last week.
Head of the CIB, Assistant Commissioner of Police McArthur Sutherland in a release assured the public that the highest level of professionalism would be implemented regarding the developments in the area.
The police said these developments included the murder of Tevin McKenzie and the shooting of two other persons, committed on Thursday, March 28 about 10:30 pm, at West Street in Port Antonio; and the shooting of two men on Sunday, March 31 about 1:15 am, also on West Street.
The investigations are progressing apace and the assigned investigators are prepared to pursue all investigative leads that have emerged so far, the police said, adding that they are relying on the continued cooperation of the public in making breakthroughs in both matters.
As such, persons with useful information regarding the incidents are being encouraged to contact the CIB HQ at 876-922-2380 or 876-922-4487, Police 119 emergency number, Crime Stop at 311 or the nearest Police Station to assist in the probe.
The investigations are being carried out amid Thursday's by-election in the East Portland section of the Division.
Police have said that the attacks were not politically motivated.
