Created : 21 February 2018
Joel Lyn, a small boy with a giant voice, successfully warded off eight other formidable contenders, to garner victory for York Castle High School, at the Rita Marley Foundation (JA) public speaking competition last week.
Initially after the victory, Joel received $30,000 in cash and prizes from the Rita Marley Foundation, but has now collected an additional $15,000 after Jamaica Fire Equipment and another undisclosed entity went on board as post event sponsors.
Lyn distinguished himself in the preliminary round by emphatically sharing his ‘opinion on the cause of and remedy for, severe weather conditions affecting various countries around the world.’
He then outshone his rivals in the finals with his speech on why there should not be an existence of a need for war.
All participants received Bob Marley merchandise, Wisynco products, Devon House gift certificates and Royal Rita Products.
In addition to thanking all the sponsors (Wisynco Group, Jamaica Fire Equipment, Tastee Ltd, Spanish Court Hotel, Viking Productions, Devon House, 876 Terrace, Caribbean Cream, STATCOM and Royal Rita) Rita Marley Foundation manager Rosemary Duncan thanked musicians Stream, Astley ‘Grub’ Cooper and Bongo Herman for their involvement.
