MOH seeks to assure public as dengue, gastroenteritis worries increase

The Ministry of Health says it is working to ensure the timely delivery of health care amidst an upsurge in visits to Accident & Emergency Units at public hospitals for suspected dengue, gastroenteritis and flu-like or upper respiratory illness.

Children with symptoms of these conditions can now access the University Hospital of the West Indies (UHWI) for assessment and treatment. Those aged 12 years and younger will access those services free of cost, until further notice, ministry officials said in a release.

Health officials also sought to remind the public about changes in hours of service at select health centres in Kingston and St Andrew:

  •  Nannyville Health Centre will now provide services five days per week (Mondays to Fridays) from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm
  • Olympic Gardens Health Centre will now offer extended hours five days per week (Mondays to Fridays) from 8:00 am to 8:00 pm.
