Minibus driver battling for life after crash on Spanish Town Road

A bus driver is in hospital battling for his life following a two-way motor vehicle collision on Spanish Town Road in St Andrew on Friday night.

Reports are that the driver of a minibus was heading towards downtown Kingston late on Friday, when after passing the Portia Simpson Miller Square and reaching close to the Payne Land community, the bus collided with a Coaster bus full of passengers.

According to a person who claimed to have been an eyewitness, the minibus driver was left pinned down inside the vehicle, and had to be cut from the unit.

Reports are that residents of Payne Land and surrounding communities came to the assistance of the police to remove the man from the mangled wreckage. 

Some of the passengers in the Coaster bus received minor cuts and bruises.

Reports are that the driver of the minibus was rushed to hospital, where he was admitted in serious condition.

Checks up to late Saturday night revealed that his condition had stilled not improved.
