Newly-appointed Chairman of the local Premier League Clubs’ Association (PLCA) Mike Henry, has said all is in place for the start of the new Red Stripe Premier League (RSPL) season on Sunday, September 1.

Henry has revealed that the official launch of the 2019/2020 season will take place next week Thursday, August 29 with title sponsors, Red Stripe, back on board.

“We are looking forward to exciting times as we build out the growth and development of professional soccer in Jamaica. We will be moving it forward in many ways and in many directions to show the professional approach that is required and the financial structure that it needs to support it,” Henry told Loop Sports on Tuesday.

He said all outstanding issues are being dealt with, including outstanding salaries owed to referees.

“There are no issues that won’t be addressed. Any issues that are outstanding, anything that seems to have any areas to be cleared up, I’m assuring everyone it will be cleared up in a working relationship approach with the President of the Jamaica Football Federation (Micheal Ricketts) and all the players in the game,” Henry assured.

“We have some exciting things to announce soon as we move the league into a new realm,” he added.

Henry said his goal is to follow the English Premier League (EPL) structure while expanding the development of the privatisation of the RSPL.

Henry, who is also the Chairman of the Clarendon-based RSPL outfit, Humble Lion FC, succeeded Edward Seaga who died in May, as PLCA Chairman. Seaga, a former Prime Minister and Member of Parliament for West Kingston, was also President of Tivoli Gardens FC which also play in the RSPL.

Henry is a Minister of Government and the longstanding Member of Parliament for Central Clarendon.
