Men killed in ongoing East Kingston flare-up identified
The two men who were killed in gun violence that dogged sections of East Kingston over the weekend have been identified.
They are Keanu Green, a labourer from Manley Meadows, Kingston, and Junior Reid, otherwise called ‘Amin’, a merchandiser of Shoe Lane in East Kingston.
The men were among five people who were shot in three separate incidents in the area that has since been flooded with police and military personnel because of the flare-up of violence between criminal gangs.
The police reported that in the first incident at about 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, a group of persons was standing in the Brydon Street area of the Kingston Eastern Police Division, when a group of men walked up brandishing guns.
Reports are that the men opened fire, hitting two men.
The attackers then fled the scene.
The injured men were rushed to hospital, where they were admitted for treatment.
The police said three hours later, another group of men went to a neighbouring section of Brae Street and opened fire at a group of persons before fleeing the area.
As a result of the attack, two men were found suffering from gunshot wounds.
They were rushed to hospital, where one from the group - Green - succumbed to his injuries.
The deadly gun assault did not stop there.
The police reported that about 1:30 a.m. on Sunday, they received reports that explosions were heard on Shoe Lane. .
A team of officers went to investigate, and during a search, the bullet-riddled body of Reid was found in a house.
The police said the series of attacks is the latest development in a longstanding feud between rival gangs in the area.
