In all of the ongoing road work, it appears that pedestrians were an afterthought.

The medians are their greatest problem.

Traffic flowed smoothly during the first day of the new school year on Monday but many mothers, fathers and children found it difficult to cross major roadways.

An elderly woman, who seemed to be taking her grandaughter to school, was livid.

The woman crossed Spanish Town Road in the vicinity of Majesty Gardens, otherwise known as ‘Back To’, with a young female child. She had to lift her over a median about 18 inches high.

Loop News photographer Marlon Reid captured the shot.

“You see what we have to go through?” the woman asked Reid “We a go block the road cause it can’t work.”

There is a median along Constant Spring Road that stretches from Mary Brown’s Corner all the way to Hillman Road. Pedestrians have no access to cross the street and get to the well used financial institutions in the middle of that stretch of roadway.

On Monday morning, a woman was seen lifting a small boy over that median in an effort to cross the street.

“We love (the road work) as is progress, but Lord God what about the people who don’t drive?” the woman asked.
