Senator Matthew Samuda has been appointed Minister without Portfolio in the Ministry of National Security.

He was sworn in on Monday by Governor General Sir Patrick Allen

In a news release, the Office of the Prime Minister noted that Samuda's appointment fulfills the constitutional requirement for a minimum of two Cabinet ministers from the Senate. The vacancy was created by the resignation of Pearnel Charles Jr to contest for the South East Clarendon seat in the House of Representatives.

With the appointment, 35-year-old Samuda becomes the youngest minister in the Holness administration.
