Fourteen-time champions Kingston College (KC) and St Catherine High stretched their perfect records to six on Match Day 14 of the 2018 ISSA/Digicel Manning Cup football competition on Saturday.

KC whipped Clan Carthy High 8-0 in their return-leg Group B fixture at the Stadium East field, while St Catherine High continued their impressive start to the season by swamping  the visiting Oberlin High 10-0 in their Group E game.

The results mean that KC and St Catherine High completed big victories over the two legs, KC had defeated Clan Carthy 5-0 when they met for the first time on September 15 at the Alpha Institute; while St Catherine High had beaten Oberlin High 12-0 victory in an away match, also on September 15.

Hydel High vs Jamaica College

With the victories, both KC and St Catherine High strengthened their chances of advancing to the second round as respective group winners.

KC moved to maximum 18 points from six matches, but Mona remain three points behind in second place following a 6-0 victory at Ardenne High. Third-place Calabar High are also in the hunt for a second round spot by scoring a 1-0 home victory against Dunoon Technical High School.

St Catherine High also moved to maximum 18 points, a three-point lead over Excelsior High, which scored a 2-1 home victory over Penwood High.

Meanwhile, five-time defending champions Jamaica College (JC) outscored Hydel High 3-2 in their Group F top-of-the-table fixture at Caymanas.

The victory was achieved through goals from Javain Thompson in the 37th minute, Tajay Grant in the 54th and Norman Campbell in the 74th.  Fakibi Farquarson (45th minute) and  substitute Jordane Cameron (81st minute) responded for Hydel.

As a result of the victory, JC moved to 16 points, three more than Hydel High after both school entered the day locked on 13 points.

JC had a slight advantage in the first half with most of the action taking place in Hydel's half of the pitch.

Hydel countered quickly, but were mostly ineffective in their final attacking third.

JC almost made their territorial advantage count early in the half when Earon Elliott rose high in the six-yard box and got a clean header from a left-side corner, but it went straight to goalkeeper Shaquan Davis.

JC eventually took the lead through a well-orchestrated build up. It was Grant, however, that took apart the Hydel defence with a long pass from the centre circle down the right flank to Okeefe Cunningham whose control got rid of his marker.

Cunningham dribbled to the edge of the 18-yard and with Hydel defenders struggling to get back, crossed low out of the reach of goalkeeper Davis for Thompson at the far post to tap into the unprotected section of the goal.

Hydel equalised from a free kick on the left side of the 18-yard box that Farquarson fired powerfully home.

Hydel started the second half pressing but it was JC who took the lead for a second time, when Grant scored from a scramble inside the area.

Shayne Lopez presented Campbell with an excellent opportunity to extend JC's lead but he missed the target. However, the combination got it right minutes later  when Campbell scored a low volley after Lopez had once again dismissed his attackers on the right and crossed inside to him.

Hydel's substitute Cameron scored the best goal of the match, when he turned and bend the ball into the top left hand corner of the post from just outside the 18-yard box. It gave goalkeeper Williams no chance.
