Man who tried to smuggle cocaine on to cruise ship in Falmouth charged

The St Lucian national who was caught trying to smuggle a quantity of cocaine on to a cruise ship that had docked in Falmouth two weeks ago was slapped with a fine of $700,000 for breaching the Dangerous Drug Act.
The man Akim Travis Davis, 24, was ordered to pay the fine or spend 11 months in prison after he pleaded guilty to possession of cocaine, taking steps to export cocaine and dealing in cocaine charges when he appeared in the Falmouth Parish court.
Reports are that about 3:30pm on Monday, January 15, Davis, who was a crew member of the Norwegian Escape cruise ship that was docked at the Falmouth Port, left the ship and was trying to return to the vessel when he was stopped and searched at the security check point on the ship when the drugs was found on his person.
He was subsequently arrested and charged by members of the Narcotics Police.
