Man who ‘disarmed cop at station' to appear in court on Friday

A man who reportedly attacked and injured a policeman before relieving the cop of his service pistol last Thursday, is to appear in court on Friday.

The police reported that the man, a security guard identified as ‘Romario Kevin Abrahams’, was wanted by the St Andrew Central police after the incident at the Cross Roads Police Station in St Andrew.

Abrahams reportedly went to the station at about 1pm to give a statement and submit a medical report in relation to a case of assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

While being assisted, he reportedly attacked and disarmed a policeman and quickly made his escape.

The police told Loop News that Abrahams was held the day after at the Spanish Town Hospital while trying to get medical attention. Reports are that while making his escape from the Cross Roads Police Station, he injured his hand.

The police said a firearm was recovered from the accused.

He has since been charged with illegal possession of a firearm and several other offences.
