Man shot dead, firearm seized as cop foils 'robbery' in St Andrew

One man was fatally shot and a firearm reportedly seized by police along Barbican Road, St Andrew, on Friday.

Reports are that at about 10:30 p.m., a man armed with a gun went to a section of the road and was about to rob a number of persons when he was challenged by a policeman who was close to the location.

Reports are that a shootout ensued and the gunman was shot dead. The name of the deceased has not yet been released.

Police report that one 9 mm pistol was recovered. Reports are also circulating that the policeman was injured during the shootout.

The Corporate Communication Unit, the police information arm, has confirmed reports regarding the fatal shooting but could not say if the reports that the policeman was injured in the incident are true.

“We can confirm that one man was fatally shot and one firearm was recovered by the police, as it relates to other details we are still carrying out investigations on the incident,” one officer from CCU said.
