Man shot and disarmed by off-duty cop in Portmore

One man is now under police guard in hospital following a confrontation between himself and an off-duty Police officer on the Newlands main road in Portmore, St. Catherine on Saturday, November 10.

Reports from the Portmore police are that about 3:30 a.m., the off-duty officer was in a taxi when he was accosted by a man - who was also a passenger in the vehicle. He reportedly opened gunfire at the lawman who repelled the attack, during which the man was shot and disarmed.

The police were summoned and the injured man was taken to hospital where he was admitted.

One Taurus 9mm pistol and a round of ammunition were seized during the incident.

The matter was reported to the Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM) and the Inspectorate of Constabulary (IOC).
