Man perishes after car crashes, catches fire on Hope Road

The driver of a Honda Civic was burnt to death after his car crashed into a utility pole on Hope Road, St Andrew on Sunday morning.

A male passenger was assisted to the hospital in serious condition, but the driver was trapped inside the vehicle.

Reports are that the car was travelling along Hope Road towards Papine at 4:45 am, when the driver overtook an ambulance at the intersection of Hope and Lady Musgrave Roads.

The driver lost control of the vehicle, crashed into a median and then a utility pole before the car burst into flames.

A team from the York Park fire extinguished the fire, but the driver perished.

Speeding is believed to be the cause of the accident.
