Angry residents of Sterling Caste Heights in rural St Andrew mobbed and killed a man who they accused of killing seven-year-old Shante Skyers.

The decomposing body of the Red Hills Primary student was discovered in the Sterling Castle Heights area by police authorities Tuesday after an intensive five-day search by residents led to a grisly discovery.

Shante Skyers was found dead on Tuesday.

"The police are now processing the scene in a section of Sterling Castle, one man was mobbed and set ablaze, he is dead; we will have more information on his identity later," a representative of the Corporate Communication Unit (CCU) told Loop News reporter Claude Mills.

The mob killing reportedly happened in an area known as 'Bulla Level' where the man was reportedly set ablaze and burnt to death. His house was also set ablaze.

The residents had been in a militant mood since Monday when they mounted a boisterous protest and blocked the road as they accused the police of being lethargic in their efforts to locate the young girl.

Loop News will have more on this story as it breaks.

In the meantime, police reported earlier Wednesday that two men have been detained in the girl's death and are to be questioned.
