Man linked to several robberies fatally shot by police in Trelawny

A man said to be behind a string of robberies was fatally shot by the police during an operation in Falmouth, Trelawny late Friday.

Reports are that about 11:30pm the police were summoned to the town after getting reports that a man, accused of robbing a number of persons earlier, was spotted.

Reports are that the police saw the man and approached him. It is alleged that the man was shot after he attacked a member of the police team with a knife when he was cornered.

He was taken to hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The name of the man has not yet been released.
The Independent Commission of Investigation (INDECOM) is investigating the matter.
