Man fatally shot by police, firearm recovered in Kingston Western

An unidentified man was shot dead and a firearm recovered during a police operation in the Kingston Western police division on Friday morning.

Police report that at about 5:30 am, a team of police officers went to Gem Road off Maxfield Avenue when they saw a man acting in a suspicious manner.

Reports are that the man was approached and he opened fire at the police team.

Police said the fire was returned and the man was later found suffering from gunshot wounds.

He was rushed to hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Police said one firearm, a 9 mm pistol, was recovered.

Kingston Western police division includes sections of West Kingston and St Andrew South constituencies.
