A man is dead after reportedly jumping into the Kingston Harbour on Tuesday afternoon.

The deceased has been identified as 49-year-old Christopher McKnight.

According to an alleged eyewitness, McKnight jumped into the water about 3pm from the edge of a ledge along the waterfront.

She said that it was after he started struggling that she realised that he could not swim. An alarm was raised but McKnight drowned before help could get to him, the woman explained.

The marine police were summoned and with the help of a civilian volunteer diver (pictured in the water in a yellow tshirt), they were able to recover McKnight's body.

The City Centre Police Station is investigating.
