Man commits suicide after killing woman in Whitehall Avenue

A 47-year-old woman was shot and killed by a man said to her common-law husband in Whitehall Avenue, St Andrew on Friday.

The man later used the gun to take his own life, the police are reporting.

The deceased have been identified as Suzanne, 47-year-old, and Gary Puranda a 49-year-old resident of Chestervale Avenue in Kingston.

Reports are that at about 10:00 p.m., the couple were at a premises in Whitehall Avenue when an argument developed.

It is reported that during the heated exchange the man pulled his licensed firearm and shot the woman. Minutes later he then shot and killed himself.

Police were called to the area by residents who heard the explosions.

A search was conducted and the bodies of the two were found.

The killing comes less than two weeks after a businessman chased and shot dead a 22-year-old woman and then killed himself in St James.

The deceased in that incident were identified as Wendy Scarlett, a resident of German Town, Westmoreland and Junior Wint, a 47-year-old businessman of Moore Park in St James.
