Man charged for gun attack on businessman in Old Harbour

Investigators from the St Catherine South Police Division arrested and charged a man for the offences of shooting with intent, illegal possession of firearm and illegal possession of ammunition on Tuesday, October 22.

Charged is 25-year-old Keemo Grant, a labourer of Burke Road in Old Harbour, St Catherine.

Reports from the Old Harbour police are that about 2.30 pm on Sunday, September 1, 2019, three armed men went to a business establishment on Darlington Drive in Old Harbour, and allegedly pulled their weapons and attacked the owner.

The businessman, who is a licensed firearm holder, responded by challenging the men.

A shootout ensued, during which one of the gunmen – a teenager - was shot, resulting in his death.

Grant and another man are alleged to have escaped from the location.

Grant was taken into custody on Saturday, October 12, and was reportedly pointed out on an identification parade, and was subsequently charged.

A court date for him is to be announced soon.
