Machete-armed homeowner disarms gunman during robbery attempt

The Spanish Town Police in St. Catherine are investigating an incident in which a homeowner disarmed a suspected burglar in New Nursery in the parish and handed the firearm over to the Police on Friday, September 15.

Reports are that about 10:40 p.m., a joint police military team responded to a call from a resident of the community. Police said when they arrived a .38 Revolver loaded with five .38 rounds of ammunition was handed over to them.

It was reported to the team that a burglar, who had used a stone to break a window to the house, dropped the firearm and fled when the homeowner confronted him with a machete.

Detectives say they have since located a man who fits the description of the suspect; he turned up at hospital with chop wounds.

The investigation continues.
