As the Westmoreland police continue their drive to pull in illegal firearms in the parish, an M16 assault rifle and a handgun were recovered in two separate raids on Friday night.
During the first incident at about 7:00 p.m., an operation was carried out on Ricketts Avenue in Savanna-la-Mar, during which a .22 pistol with an empty magazine was seized.
The pistol that was seized by the Westmoreland police on Friday.
Simultaneous, another police operation was under way in Bird Mountain district in the parish, where a premises was searched and an M16 rifle with a magazine containing 24 rounds of ammunition was seized.
No one was arrested in connection with either seizure.
