Former national football player Luton Shelton Jr has paid tribute to his late father in an emotional post to social media.
Luton Shelton Snr reportedly died in hospital on Thursday after collapsing at home. He emerged into the media spotlight last year as he rallied support for his son in the former Reggae Boy's fight against Lou Gehrig's disease.
In a touching post to Instagram on Friday, the younger Shelton expressed grief over his father's death while hailing Shelton Snr for being a loving and supportive dad.
"Oh my god daddy... you were just at home sitting and watching tv yesterday with me... why I’m being tested so much y lord!!!" Shelton Jnr said.
"This man is most honest, supportive, proud, strong, loving Daddy lived a short life at 54 but he sure did a greatttt job in instilling goood qualities in us," he wrote, adding "He surely made a mark in my life I tell you that because you all can see what kind of human being I am... daddy all you want me to do is stay strong and I will do all I can to push though for you... love you."
Shelton Jr's former club, Harbour View FC, offered their condolences to the retired footballer and his family.
"Our sincere condolences to the Shelton family, friends and the extended sports loving fraternity at Seprod on the sudden passing of Luton Shelton Snr," the club posted on Facebook.
Shelton Jr announced that he was battling the dreaded Lou Gehrig’s disease (Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, ALS) last year.
ALS is a rare neurological illness that mainly involves the nerve cells responsible for controlling voluntary muscle movement.
