Licensed firearm holder kills alleged robber in May Pen
A man who allegedly robbed fruit vendors at gunpoint of a number of items along a popular highway in Clarendon on Saturday afternoon was surprised by a licensed firearm holder, with an ensuing gun battle resulting in the death of the ‘robber’.
Reports were that about 3:20 pm, the lone, armed man held up two vendors along Bustamante Highway in May Pen near the Rio Minho Bridge.
During the robbery, a licenced firearm holder who was in the vicinity went to the vendors’ rescue and challenged the gunman.
The firearm holder was reportedly shot at by the alleged robber, and during an exchange of gunfire, the hold-up man ran into nearby bushes.
The police were summoned and during a search of the bushes, the man was found with gunshot wounds and a Taurus 9mm pistol with a magazine containing ten 9mm rounds of ammunition in his possession.
In addition, he had a bag which contained items that were identified by the robbery victims as their property, which had been forcibly taken from them.
The injured man was taken to the May Pen Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
