Motorcyclists increasingly feature in road death statistics on the nation's roads, with many of the fatalities being the result of traffic violations committed by bikers.

What's more, motorcyclists are often behind heinous gun attacks and robberies as the bike is a favoured vehicle for criminals seeking a quick getaway.

Against this background, former Deputy Commissioner of Police, Mark Shields recently called for the short term banning of motorcycles.

Shields proposes that licences would be re-issued after vetting.
