Late goal denies Harbour View victory in RSPL Monday night fixture
Harbour View missed a chance to move closer to a playoff spot in the 2019-2020 Red Stripe Premier League (RSPL) after they were held to a 1-1 draw by visitors Mount Pleasant FA in their Monday night fixture at the Harbour View Stadium.
The fixture was the final game of Match Day 23.
Bebeto McDonald handed Harbour View the lead in the 34th minute and Mount Pleasant FA found the equaliser at the death with Sue-Lae McCalla scoring in the fourth minute of stoppage time.
With just 10 regular-season games remaining Harbour View are in ninth place on 30 points, four points behind Arnett Gardens, which occupied the sixth and final playoff spot.
The result represents a slight setback for Mount Pleasant FA as the 1-1 draw handed last season's beaten finalists Waterhouse sole leadership of the table.
Mount Pleasant FA and Waterhouse were locked atop the table on 40 points heading into Match Day 23, the start of the third round.
Waterhouse improved to 43 points on Sunday with a 1-0 victory over relegation-threatened Vere United at the Wembley Centre of Excellence. The Drewsland-based club snatched the victory at the death, Shaquille Bradford scoring in the 3rd minute of stoppage time.
Mount Pleasant FA failed to respond in the Monday night fixture and slipped two points behind Waterhouse.
At the end of the preliminary round, the top two teams on points will advance straight to the semi-finals; while third to sixth place will enter into a playoff for the other two semi-final spots. The top team at the end of the preliminary round will also win $1 million. And the bottom two teams will be relegated.
UWI FC (17 points) and Vere United (16 points) are the teams in the relegation zone.
